On Thursday 10th October we hosted the first GSF Awards night in Newcastle at the Newcastle Falcons Rugby Stadium. Partnership Manager, Alison Westworth and Gareth Kirk led the presentation and Tim Bestford awarded the prizes.
Of the 21 athletes awarded support this year 10 were able to join us last on the night and their stories of sporting success and ambitions were nothing short of inspirational.
The sports represented last night included Swimming, Badminton, Basketball, Wrestling, Shooting and Gymnastics. In total the Newcastle GSF athletes are receiving funding of just over £13,000 across 9 unique sports.
We were extremely happy to be joined by Cllr Abdul Samad who is the Newcastle Cabinet member for a Vibrant City. New to the role, Cllr Samad sits as our Portfolio Holder and it was a fantastic to showcase GLL and the foundation.
We welcomed the attendance of key partners from Sport Newcastle and some of our Key clubs including Newcastle Swim Team.
It was also lovely to welcome back old NCL board members including Chris Roberts, GLL Board Trustee completed. They were happy to see the great progress being made in Newcastle and the positive impact of the foundation.
The event was a fantastic celebration of Sporting Success and the work of the GSF. It was a great opportunity for colleagues in Newcastle to join the athletes for this celebration. We look forward to its growth and next years celebration!
